Some people are excited that long-serving former Republican Majority and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell voted against confirming Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense and so seemed to show some opposition to Trump . My response can only be described as “Too Fucking Late!” First off, the vote is meaningless — Hegseth was confirmed anyway. Second, if Mitch McConnell had rallied Republican senator to vote to convict Trump in either impeachment, that would have been meaningful and we might well not be where we are today. To vote to convict Trump was his absolute duty, and in failing to do so he, and every other Republican senator who did not vote to convict, violated their oath of office which called upon them to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; [to]l bear true faith and allegiance to the same; [and to] well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter[.]. Neither he, nor any other Republican senator took an oath to support and defend only the Republican Party. His failure to lead, and to fulfill his obligations, should cause the judgment of history to be one of utter contempt for his moral cowardice. If this opinion seems unduly harsh, I never wanted to be Senate Majority Leader, McConnell did.
