Joe Biden has faced much criticism for the preemptive pardons he issued in his final days in office to family and other people threatened by Donald Trump. The first few days of the Trump presidency have shown how right Biden was to do so. Trump has launched legal attacks on the attorneys that worked for Jack Smith and those who prosecuted the January 6th rioters. He has arbitrarily lifted security clearance and, worst of all, removed security details from people like General Mark Miley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompey who face threats to their lives from Iran. He has threatened much more. Given this, the only thing that seems wrong about Joe Biden’s pardons is that he should have issued even more of them. This is the world we live in, folks.
