All empires come to an end and I think I am living through the last days of the American empire.  As I look at this fiasco I have end of empire envy.  

While I watch the debacle I cannot help but compare this to the end of the previous empire — the British Empire.  At least they  want out gloriously helping save the world from Hitler and fascism under the leadership of one of the great men of the 20th Century, Winston Churchill.

Instead we have catastrophes that were self-inflicted on ourselves and visited disaster on the people of Afghanistan and Iran.

To cap it all off we have chosen to piss off our friends and shit on our allies.  

And for the leader we have chosen to wrap up both the republic and the empire, we have Donald Trump.

History does repeat itself, the first time as tragedy, the second as farce.
