 When a human transforms into a werewolf, and vice-versa, does, or does not, the law of conservation of mass apply? That is to say, does a 180lb human turn into a 180lb wolf (which would be a pretty big wolf) or does he or she loose mass to become wolf size?  Or for that matter does a 120lb human turn into a big scary 220lb werewolf? And how about the transformation the other way?  Authorities differ:  Patricia Brigg’s werewolves do not conserve mass (and let’s not even consider Mercy Thompson changing into a fairly small coyote) and  Carrie Vaughn’s werewolves do conserve mass.  So which is it?  A scientific investigation is needed to answer this question.  Inquiring minds want to know.
