Thought for the Day: Both Donald Trump in the US and Brexit in the UK were populist reactions to a neoliberal economic and political system that was enriching and empowering elites while slowly immiserating, disempowering, and to some degree degrading the majority of their respective nations. This reaction was predictable, predicted, and completely justified.

Unfortunately, Donald Trump and Brexit were solutions that were far worse than the problem that they were meant to address. Just because a populist reaction is completely justified, it does not mean that the solutions that populism offered are the right ones, and will not, instead, make bad disastrous.
